Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Caluna collects, uses, and protects information when you use our app, website, and related services.
Overview
Caluna helps you estimate and log calories, macros, meals, and progress. We use your information to provide the app, improve reliability, process subscriptions, maintain security, respond to support requests, and meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not send meal photos, nutrition logs, weight logs, or health goals to advertising platforms.
The public Caluna website is currently a static website. It does not include product analytics scripts, advertising pixels, or tracking cookies, although website hosting providers may process ordinary request logs for delivery, security, and reliability.
Information we collect
- Account information, such as your name, email address, sign-in provider identifiers, authentication session details, password hashes for email accounts, and password reset code hashes.
- Nutrition and goal information, such as meal logs, food entries, calorie targets, macro targets, preferences, units, and onboarding answers.
- Scan information, such as meal photos, typed or spoken meal descriptions, barcode values, package details, detected foods, serving estimates, confidence scores, ingredients, and scan corrections you submit.
- Progress information, such as weight logs, target weight, daily totals, streaks, and related dashboard summaries.
- Purchase information, such as subscription status, plan type, free trial state, renewal state, and restore status. App Store payment details are handled by Apple, not Caluna.
- Device, usage, and diagnostics information, such as app version, platform, screens viewed, feature events, crash or error context, and a randomly generated analytics identifier that is not your Caluna account identifier.
- Security and request information, such as IP address, request timestamps, user agent, rate-limit keys, and server logs used to operate, secure, debug, and prevent abuse of the service.
- Support information, such as messages you send us and any details needed to answer your request.
When you upload a meal or package photo from the iOS app, Caluna re-encodes the image before upload to reduce embedded image metadata. You should still avoid including faces, documents, location clues, or other people in photos you submit.
App Store privacy labels
For App Store privacy labels, Caluna treats nutrition, goal, meal, scan, and weight information as health-related data because it is used to estimate calories, macros, and progress. Account, purchase, meal, scan, and progress information is linked to your Caluna account so the app can sync your history and subscription access.
Product analytics and diagnostics are used to understand app quality and reliability. We configure PostHog analytics without person profiles, session replay, automatic screen capture, third-party advertising, or cross-app tracking. We treat this usage and diagnostic data as not linked to your identity, and we do not send meal photos, nutrition logs, or weight logs to analytics providers.
How we use information
- Provide calorie estimates, macro calculations, daily dashboards, progress tracking, account sync, and saved meal history.
- Analyze photo, barcode, and described meal scans using our backend services, OpenAI, Apple speech recognition, and nutrition lookup providers. Photo analysis, described meal analysis, and AI correction features require an in-app AI data sharing consent.
- Process and verify subscriptions, free trials, renewals, cancellations, and restore requests.
- Measure Caluna advertising performance using limited app events, such as app activation, registration, onboarding completion, subscription checkout, and subscription completion.
- Improve app quality, diagnose bugs, prevent abuse, and understand which features are working.
- Send service messages, including account, security, support, and subscription-related notices. If you enable notifications, Caluna schedules meal or trial reminders locally on your device.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
Your choices
- You can update many profile, goal, unit, and preference settings inside the app.
- You can control notifications in iOS Settings and inside supported app settings.
- You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple App Store account settings.
- You can decline AI data sharing and still use non-AI logging features such as manual food logging and saved foods.
- You can delete your Caluna account in the app. Deleting your account does not cancel an active App Store subscription; you must cancel subscription renewal through Apple.
- You can request access, correction, deletion, or export of your personal information by contacting us.
Retention and security
We keep personal information for as long as needed to provide Caluna, comply with law, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and maintain accurate business records. If you delete your account or ask us to delete your data, we delete your account records and scan images from active Caluna systems unless we need to keep limited information for legitimate legal, security, fraud-prevention, billing, backup, or operational reasons.
Some records controlled by third parties, such as Apple App Store transaction history, RevenueCat entitlement records, provider security logs, and email delivery records, may be retained by those providers according to their policies and legal obligations.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International processing
Caluna and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries where we or they operate. Privacy and data protection laws in those countries may differ from the laws where you live.
Children
Caluna is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child provided information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
